Preventing Senior Isolation
It's time to say "Merry Christmas" and "Happy New Year!", but obviously this year has been a very difficult for many, especially our older folks who have been more shut in then ever. Everyone during this Covid pandemic have had to take precautions and social distance, but the elderly have been hit the hardest especially the patients at nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.
At the North Tonawanda Senior Center we are sending Christmas cards to our local nursing homes along with a simple holiday craft for each resident. This is just a small gesture, but sometimes a small gesture can go a long way and put a smile on a stranger's face.
The one thing that i hope people take away from this pandemic is learning how to give and genuinely care about others and our community as a whole. This pandemic has taught us how to pause and think about others. Taking our days off and shopping for our elderly neighbors has become from being a chore to a forever friendship.
